Walter D. Mignolo, Professor and Director of the Centre for Global Studies and the Humanities at Duke University (USA), is giving a public lecture on 23 May 2018 at 17.15 entitled: "La conscience décoloniale: The Call of the Humanities".

The event is taking place at the University of Freiburg and open to all those interested. The main focus lies on the question of how postcolonial theories can be implemented.

What responsibility do cultural and social studies as well as the humanities bear in this process? Walter D. Mignolo, who has published extensively on semiotics and literary theory, explores concepts such as global coloniality, the geopolitics of knowledge, transmodernity, Border-Thinking and pluriversality. His internationally renowned publications include The Darker Side of the Renaissance: Literacy, Territoriality, and Colonization (1995), Local Histories/Global Designs: Coloniality, Subaltern Knowledges and Border Thinking (2000) and The Darker Side of Western Modernity: Global Futures, Decolonial Options (2011).
