The web portal provides an insight into the variety of audio-visual source material contained in the archival collections catalogued by the Archives of Rural History. The digitised film material is arranged either by topic – such as "labour", "milk" or "animals" - or by specific institutions that have produced a significant number of films.
Timemachine is an online exhibition of the Swiss National Museum with historical photographs on "Switzerland in motion".
The photographs can be searched by themes, epochs and keywords.
The photographic collection covers the period from 1839 to the recent past and comprises almost 200'000 photographs. The goal is to document the social and cultural change in Switzerland since 1840 as well as the history of photography in Switzerland.
The second-largest art museum in the canton of Vaud, the Musée Jenisch Vevey has over the years acquired major collections of works on paper – prints and drawings from every period – which today account for more than 95% of its holdings. Specifically, there are 9'500 drawings, 35,000 prints and 1,300 paintings.
The temporary and semi-permanent exhibitions are thus devoted primarily to prints and drawings.
Gramophone is a project of the Swiss National Sound Archives, which aims to safeguard and enhance a number of historical sound recordings (on cylinders and 78rpm records) preserved in the archives of the Phonotheque.
On this page, a selection of sound documents of the Gramophone project is brought to the public as "free access". These are cylinders and 78rpm records that, in accordance with the Swiss laws, belong to the public domain and can therefore be published online. More that 200 historical sound documents are listenable.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) makes archives regarding prisoners of the First World War available online. The belligerent countries provided lists of prisoners to the ICRC which created an index card for each prisoner. These cards can be searched online.
