History: 

The Foundation for the Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae (LIMC) was funded in Geneva on November 24th 1972 and established in Basel in 1983. The Foundation for the LIMC has been dissolved on 31st of March 2014. Its archives have been transferred to the University of Basel. (Information about the history of the Foundation)

Inventory: 

The study of the iconographic representations of the ancient myths and legends being designated as classical mythology was the main objective pursued by the Foundation for the LIMC.

Its first task was the preparation and publication of the Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae (LIMC - illustrated lexicon about the ancient myths), completed in 1999.
