Call for Papers
The AIUCD 2020 conference reflects upon the implications and significance of computational processing of Humanities data.
What is the methodological impact of the application of computational methods to humanities data? What consequences does it entail for humanities researchers in terms of training? Is it still necessary to talk about (and make) a distinction between "traditional" humanists and "digital" humanists? Is the term "Digital Humanities" still appropriate or should it be replaced with "Computational Humanities" or "Humanities Computing"? Is the computational dimension of the research projects typically presented at AIUCD conferences that methodologically distinctive?
While open to other topics related to the Digital Humanities, we particularly welcome proposals on:
- statistical and quantitative research methods and their teaching applications;
- Data Science and the role of the Digital Humanities in the definition of new knowledge;
- Information Science and Digital Humanities: meeting points and methodological integration;
- cultural and social impact of humanities research that makes use of computational methodologies;
- Semantic web technologies and Linked Open Data in the Humanities;
- models and tools for knowledge representation in the Humanities and in Heritage Science;
- visualisation methodologies and technologies and their significance for the Humanities and cultural heritage;
- Natural Language Processing methodologies and applications for the Humanities;
- digitisation methodologies and technologies for the creation, preservation, and promotion of digital cultural heritage.
Deadlines
The deadline for submitting proposals is 8th September 2019 (23:59 CET).
Notifications of acceptance will be sent to the authors by 30th October 2019.
The official languages of the Conference are Italian and English.
However, it is also possible to present in other languages as long as English slides are provided.
Proposal Format and Submission
Submissions must be sent in the form of a complete short article of up to four (4) pages (excluding references). Upon acceptance, the maximum length of the final versions of papers is six (6) pages (excluding references).
All submissions must follow the template provided on the conference website (https://aiucd2020.unicatt.it/aiucd-call-for-papers-informazioni-per-gli…) and must be sent in PDF format using the Easychair platform: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=aiucd2020
The paper review process will be double-blind. Each contribution will be evaluated by three reviewers. Authors should anonymise their papers and, as indicated in the template, refrain from self-referencing as much as possible.
The article may be written in Italian or English and must be preceded by a short abstract in both languages. English is particularly encouraged for greater visibility. The language of the submission does not determine the language of the presentation. However, in order to avoid any ambiguity in the conference programme, authors who choose to write their paper in one language and present in the other must inform the local conference organisers and provide them with the title in the language in which they wish to present.
During submission, the authors are required to specify whether they prefer to present their paper as a talk or as a poster. Generally, talks are better suited to the elaboration of methodological and/or theoretical questions, possibly related to experience in data analysis and the developments of tools/applications. Posters can be accompanied by demos and lend themselves well to describing tools and digital resources. There is no qualitative difference between talks and posters but, if necessary, the Programme Committee reserves the right to change talks into posters and vice versa.
All accepted submissions will be included in the conference Proceedings, which will be published in digital format only on the first day of the conference.
Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation of the proposals will be carried out based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the topic of the conference;
- Originality, relevance, or innovative approach;
- Methodological rigour, accurate description of the methodology; the research presented should be reproducible;
- Adequacy of the theoretical and conceptual approach to the reference domain.
- Consistency of arguments; clear definition of the objectives; coherence between objectives and results;
- Critical analysis of the literature; a bibliography;
- Quality of any technical solutions proposed within the reference domain;
- Good balance between the Humanities and Computer Science components of the research;
- Replicability of the results described;
- Structure of the text; quality of writing; ease of understanding; explanations of scientific language.
